The Research Forum is an opportunity to hear about some of the research projects undertaken by Aspect staff and key research partners over the last two years.
This will be the first opportunity to hear about the outcomes from an Aspect study involving adults with high functioning autism/Aspergers and their parents exploring all areas of their lives including education, employment, social, housing and health. This is the largest study conducted in Australia and gives us an intimate picture of the experiences, aspirations and support needs of this important group of people.
Anthony Warren, Aspect Senior ASD Consultant and Susanna Baldwin, Aspect Research Officer will present the results from this important study.
In addition, we will have presentations from:
- Dr. Chris Kilham University of Canberra on the outcomes from a trial of Pivotal Response Training in two Aspect schools
- Kristy Logan Aspect Riverina School on increasing the communication skills of students with ASD using Proloqu2go on the iPad;
- Dr. Rozanna Lilley Macquarie University will discuss her research with mothers as they negotiate the entry to education for their child with autism;
- Jessica Bradley University of Newcastle will discuss the research she has conducted with
- Dr. Linda Campbell into face processing and emotion recognition in young people with ASD
- Ellen Witzlsperger Aspect Diagnostic Assessment Service with findings from recent research into the impact of proposed changes to the DSM-IV criteria on the diagnoses of people on the autism spectrum
The aims of the day are to engage with Aspect’s partners and other professionals, to share our research outcomes, and to get feedback from you on some of our key research projects. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.
