Learning & Development Courses for Parents/Carers & Professionals

 

Aspect’s Educational Outreach Team provides Learning and Development (L&D) courses presented by Special Educators who are working exclusively in the field of ASD. These courses for parents, carers, special support personnel and other professionals offer practical, evidence-based interventions and opportunities for problem-solving and discussion.

 

The Educational Outreach Team provides a range of services for mainstream K – 12 students with ASD, their families and schools; including individual client consultancy and staff L&D, group social skills programs, diagnosis disclosure and peer education programs and recreational Social Clubs.


Courses
 

Introduction to ASD and Mainstream School Strategies
A full day course that offers a comprehensive overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, its features and impact on student’s learning, social integration, communication and behaviour in mainstream school settings (Kindergarten  to Year 6).

Practical support strategies are explained within a Positive Behaviour Support framework.  Opportunities for discussion and problem solving make this an engaging and practical course.

This course is accredited with the NSW Institute of Teachers.


Introduction to ASD and Practical Social Support Strategies
A full day course that offers a comprehensive overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, its features and impact on student’s social integration and social behaviour in mainstream classrooms and playgrounds (Kindergarten to Year 6).

A range of practical and stimulating social interventions are demonstrated and explained as part of a systematic Positive Behaviour Support approach.  An interactive day’s learning that will equip parents and professionals with skills to support student’s social integration.

High Functioning Autism (HFA)/Asperger’s Disorder and Adolescence
A full day course that offers a comprehensive overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, with particular focus on HFA/Asperger’s, its features and its impact on student’s learning, social integration, communication and behaviour in mainstream secondary school settings (Yr 7 to Yr 12).

Practical support strategies are explained within a Positive Behaviour Support framework.  Opportunities for discussion and problem solving make this an engaging and interactive day.
