The Diagnostic Assessment Service (DAS) of Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) is staffed by Registered Psychologists with specialist training and experience in autism spectrum disorders.
In addition to comprehensive diagnostic assessments for autism, the DAS team are now able to offer a broad range of psychology services to individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders. These services include therapy for all ages as well as cognitive and developmental assessments for children and adolescents.
Research indicates that individuals with autism and their immediate family can be particularly vulnerable to experiencing psychological distress. Psychological treatments have been shown to be effective in managing many common mental health problems including:
Anxiety and panic
Depression
Fears and phobias
Obsessions and compulsions
Grief
Stress
Low self-esteem
Psychologists can also assist in the development of social and communication skills to enhance participation in schooling and the community and in the formation of relationships. This may include:
Social skills
Problem solving skills
Coping skills
Parenting and behaviour management
Appointments are available between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday at Aspect’s Central Office, Building 1, Level 2, 14 Aquatic Drive, Frenchs Forest.
Consultation Fees
The standard fee is $125.00 per 50 minute session. Fees are payable at time of attendance. Payment can be by cash, credit card or cheque. A cancellation fee will apply.
Some private health insurance companies provide rebates for psychological services. Please contact your health insurance provider to determine whether you are eligible for a rebate. It may also be possible to obtain a rebate through Medicare under several existing plans i.e. Enhanced Primary Care Plan (up to 5 sessions), Better Outcomes in Mental Health Plan (up to 12 sessions) and items for children with Pervasive Developmental Disorder (up to 20 sessions).
In order to access these rebates you must be referred to Aspect Psychology Services by your General Practitioner, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician. Referral must be made prior to the appointment in order to receive a rebate. Please contact us or see your Medical Practitioner for further information.
