Program full for 2009, please contact Jane Cotter about plans for 2010

Phone: 02 8868 8504

February, March & May 2009

This program will provide you with information and experiences to assist further development in the important social skills of empathy and communication. Empathy is the ability to sympathise with other people’s feelings and thoughts and to communicate to them that you understand how they feel. It is an essential ingredient for deepening friendships and relationships. It is the ECS factor!

You will have the chance to join other young people in a supportive group environment where you will practise distinguishing friendship from other types of relationship; find out the important skills involved in a friendship; explore feelings within your self and others; practise ‘stepping into the shoes of the other’ and backinto your own; practise using what you understand to decide what to do or say next.

This is a ten session program that will take place between February and May 2009.

The ten sessions will include games, role-playing, use of computer software, videos, discussions and a project. The first two sessions will include information for parents and family. The group is intended for young people (16 to 20 years old) who have Asperger’s Disorder. The group size is limited to 12 participants.

Session 1: Introduction to the program

At the first session on Thursday 26 February 2009, participants will be introduced to the program. During the first part of the session, the group leaders will provide an introduction to the program and materials. A calendar of events will be provided.
