What is this research study about?

This study aims to understand autistic people’s experiences of diabetes to identify what helps diabetes management, the barriers to diabetes management, and what’s currently missing in the diabetes-related resources and care that autistic people receive.

Why should I help?

The findings of this study will be used to inform the development of autism-specific web resources. The results could also inform diabetes health advice and programs for autistic people.

Who can take part?

You are invited to take part in this study if you are

  • An autistic adult living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes
  • A support person of an autistic adult living with diabetes
  • Over 18 years old

Who is conducting this study?

This study is funded by Diabetes Australia.

Researchers from the Queensland Centre for Intellectual and Developmental Disability are doing this study.

What will I be asked to do?

We will ask you to fill a short survey about yourself and your communication preferences. We will then ask you to participate in an interview which may last between 30 to 60 minutes. We will reimburse you for your time with a $30 gift card.

When and where?

The when and the where of the interview are up to you. You can take part in the interview by video-conferencing, phone calls, email, or instant messenger/online chatting, based on your preference. Once you contact us, we can arrange a date and time that is suitable for you.
