A message from our Principal

I extend a warm welcome to you and your family to Aspect South East Sydney School.

Each stakeholder within our community makes our school a special, safe and friendly environment to be. Our students are celebrated for their strengths and unique attributes.

Teachers are dedicated to providing a stimulating curriculum whilst being at the forefront of best evidence-informed practice specific to autism. Programs are carefully designed to motivate learning and engagement and each activity is differentiated to meet individual needs.

A strong partnership is fostered with parents and it is through open communication that decisions are made about school activities and specific interventions regarding a child’s program.

Students are encouraged to be the best version of themselves and our goal is to ensure we support them to be as independent as possible with a vision of ensuring the best Quality of Life. It is the person-centred approach that fundamentally underpins everything we do at Aspect South East Sydney School.

I am proud of our school and what is achieved for each student enrolled. Enrolment inquiries at all year levels are welcome at any time. Our executive team will assist families in navigating this process.

Thank you for visiting our website and I do hope you may have the opportunity to visit our multi-campus school.

The Aspect South East Sydney School

Aspect South East Sydney School provides education for 184 students on the autism spectrum across twelve sites. Approximately Sixty-eight students are enrolled at the main school sites which are located at Peakhurst, Loftus and Marrickville.

The remaining students are enrolled in the satellite program. Satellite classrooms are specialised autism-specific classes located within mainstream schools. Generally, there are two classes within the Primary setting, one Kindergarten to Year 2 (Infants Class) and one class Year 3 to Year 6 (Primary Class). Primary Satellite Classes at Aspect South East Sydney School are located in the Eastern Suburbs, Sutherland Shire and Inner West.

There are two Satellite High School Programs which are located in the Menai, Regents Park and Auburn Regions. These classes provide education for students from years 7 to 12 who require a life skills Curriculum.

Service delivery is person-centred with an emphasis that focuses on strengths and celebrating the diversity of talents.

The primary focus of the school is to equip students with the skills to become as independent as possible and enable them to transition to less specialised settings. Approximately one-quarter of our students transition to a less specialised setting each year.

A detailed overview of our Comprehensive Approach, Mission, Vision and Values can be found on this website.

Learn about the South East Sydney School

Curriculum

Aspect South East Sydney is registered and accredited by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority. The NSW curriculum is followed. Students are involved in a range of compulsory subjects complemented by electives through their junior and senior schooling. Each student will have an individualised program with relevant adjustments made to ensure positive learning opportunities. We utilise community-based activities to assist students to generalise their learning experiences and the impact of their autism.

Technology

Our school uses technology in a range of ways to complement classroom learning. As with all components of our program this is individualised to the needs of students. We monitor very closely its use to ensure it is not the only means of delivering a program.

Positive Behaviour Support

The Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach is used to support our students to regulate their behaviour. PBS understands that challenging behaviour occurs for a reason, and is communicating important information about what the individual needs, wants and how to support them. It is likely that the demands of the student's situation exceed their ability to cope positively. We focus on students’ strengths and special interests to motivate learning and celebrate the diversity and talents of our students.
