There is a critical lack of affordable specialist autism-specific education services for children on the autism spectrum in Sydney, with an average wait list of two years to attend an Aspect School.
In response to this and as part of our three-year strategic plan to invest over $60 million across our education portfolio to further develop best practice, autism-friendly spaces for our students, our Loftus campus located in the South East Sydney School district opened in February 2021.
The Loftus campus caters for 36 primary school students, and is one of two schools and 10 satellite classes in the area.
Our classes are purposefully small to cater for the needs of each individual student, and the aesthetics and layout were carefully considered with our students in mind. For example, soft green walls and pastel classrooms that have been selected to provide a soothing sensory environment.
