Yesterday, 3 October 2015, the Illawarra Mercury reported that a former employee of Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) had appeared at the NSW Port Kembla Local Court facing criminal charges.

Aspect South Coast School Principal, Mr Bruce Rowles, confirmed that the person named in the article had worked as a teachers’ aide at the school. Mr Rowles also verified that the person had been stood down in April this year, immediately after Aspect was notified by authorities of allegations against this person.

After being stood down, the person did not return to Aspect and is no longer employed by the organisation because of a bar that was later placed on the person’s Working With Children Check.

At the time the person had been employed by Aspect, the person’s Working With Children Check was cleared.

Dr Trevor Clark, Aspect’s National Director for Education said, “We will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation by the relevant authorities and carry out our own procedures to minimise the risk of harm to any of the children and young people in our care.”
