Dane Waites is taking on a challenge of a lifetime. After 14 years of training, the 43 year old athlete will be running across Australia for three months.

Starting in Perth, WA, Dane will run over 4,000kms in total to reach his final destination of Pambula, NSW.

Diagnosed with autism as a young boy, Dane has always had a passion for running.

“Running clears my head, and then I run free and like the wind,” says Dane.

Dane is running to raise funds for autism and mental health, supporting Autism Spectrum Australia, Autism CRC and Beyond Blue.

“It’s not autism that is important to me. It’s the awareness and understanding of individuals on the spectrum that is important to me,” says Dane. “This run is not about me.”

“I want to achieve greater awareness of autism, so that individuals on the spectrum can have a great life.”

“We feel honoured that Dane has chosen to support us with this incredible achievement. His motivation, determination and focus is awe-inspiring, as he continues to educate and inspire those around him. We wish him all the best of luck, and will be following his journey!” says Brittany Adams, Autism Spectrum Australia.
