    In 2016 Autism Queensland and Aspect formed a strategic alliance to explore the possibility of amalgamation.

    After an extensive due diligence process, the identification of certain governance and regulatory issues involved in the structuring of the merger has resulted in a decision by the Boards of Autism Queensland and Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) not to proceed with the proposed merger.

    Dan has been working at National Australia Bank as an analyst for 5 months now, and is loving it.

    “The thing I like most about the role is the chance to fix things. Anything where there is a problem, that can be tackled and corrected, I love that kind of stuff” said Dan.

    “It is mostly analysing numbers, we have lots of numbers stored in the network and I do lots of different things with them to produce a numerical output.”

    As a young adult on the autism spectrum, Dan turned to the employment team at Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) for guidance.

    Craig Smith and Heath Wild are teachers at the Aspect Hunter School, who have developed their very own iTunes U course for children on the spectrum.

    Realising that many of their students have a very keen interest in technology, including iPad apps and games, the course has been designed by the teachers to help children on the autism spectrum with everyday routines and tasks which they may usually struggle with.

    A series of picture books created by a team of researchers at the University of Wollongong (UOW) aims to help young children support and understand their friends who are living with autism.

    Developed by Professor Mitch Byrne, from UOW’s School of Psychology, in collaboration with doctoral student Lidija Balaz, the three books are targeted at those aged between three and five and explore the experiences of children with autism who attend mainstream preschools.
