Aspect Hunter School
Aspect Hunter School currently caters for over 130 students across the Newcastle/Hunter region between the ages of 4 and 18 years. The school includes a main school site at Thornton which consists of the administration building and eight primary classes. The school also includes satellite classes located at Abermain, Tarro, Waratah West, Cardiff and Port Macquarie which are Aspect run and operated classes within NSW Department of Education and Catholic Schools.
Aspect Hunter School has been operating for more than 40 years and uses the Aspect Comprehensive Approach (ACA) to provide individualised education programs that understand, engage and celebrate the strengths, interests and aspirations of people on the autism spectrum. Aspect Hunter School works closely with each student and their family to develop confidence and skills to support transition to less specialised settings and inclusion in a student’s local community.
From Term 1, 2019 Aspect Hunter School will commence a high school program at the Thornton site.
The school holds information sessions each term for parents/carers and service providers to give details of the school enrolment process, our education program and the range of services provided by Aspect in the Hunter region. These services include therapy, early intervention, school-based programs, education outreach and training and support across home and community.
Aspect Hunter School offers consultancy services to mainstream and special schools in the Newcastle/Hunter region. Known as Aspect Education Outreach, parents and schools can refer their child/student for support. Student workshops and professional development are available to schools. For more information, please visit the Aspect Education Outreach page.
