Autism Spectrum Australia

Aspect Treetop School Adelaide

Aspect has been assisted by an advisory board of parents and members of the community to open South Australia's first autism specific school and was delighted to open its doors to students on Monday 25 July, 2016. Aspect brings to the new school 50 years of experience in providing specialist education to students on the spectrum through its unique approach known as the Aspect Comprehensive Approach for Education (ACAE).

“Too often students with autism are placed in mainstream schools without the appropriate supports, and when they are not ready to meet the many challenges they face,” says Adrian Ford, Aspect’s CEO. Ford continued, “We are delighted to have been given the opportunity by the South Australian Government to bring our ACAE to a state other than New South Wales for the first time in our 50 years of operation. It is an excellent result in our anniversary year of 2016.”

In addition to its own financial commitment to open Stage 1 of the school on Monday 25 July, Aspect is now launching its Capital Campaign for Stage 2 and looks forward working with the South Australian community to raise funds to complete the refurbishment and modernisation of the buildings at Ashford for the next stage of the Aspect Treetop School.

Aspect is calling upon the South Australian community to help raise funds to complete the refurbishment and modernisation of the buildings at Ashford.

25th July 2016 - First day of school for students at Aspect Treetop School in Adelaide.

Monday was the first day of school at our new Aspect Treetop School in Adelaide and we're already receiving great feedback from the kids:
Avalon said "It was awesome, the teacher didn’t shout once, I want to go back tomorrow & jump on the trampoline some more" while Milo said it was "school-tastic", so it must've been good.

The Site

The South Australian Government has given Aspect use of the Ashford Special School site on Anzac Highway, Ashford.

The Treetop School Project received development consent from Council on 11 March 2016.  Preparation of the entire site is to include asbestos removal and demolition for which tenders are being called.  The Project has a Master Plan which is broken down into three stages of work.  Stage 1 will occur in the heritage building known as Ashford House;  Stage 2 moves to the Anzac Highway Building and Stage 3 covers the Farnham Road wing.  External works will include the playgrounds and landscaping.
